Artist Geoffrey Carran paints the namesake of Major Mitchel’s upstairs bar at Little Big House.

I have long been a fan of Geoffrey Carran’s exquisite bird portraits. Geoffrey is a contemporary artist based on the south coast of Melbourne. He is widely recognised for his large scale works and highly energetic approach to colour and composition. Geoffrey gives every bird he paints a unique personality and character, painting them in mid conversation and movement.

We were fortunate to be able to commission Geoffrey to paint a very special mural at Little Big House. Geoffrey painted two Major Mitchel’s in conversation for Little Big House, featuring his signature brushwork and vibrant use of colour. The Major Mitchel’s have such a presence that the bar was named after them.

Geoffey also produced works on canvas, prints and drawings, follow the links below for further details.

Well not exactly, but if a textile was going to be commissioned then this would be the perfect answer to the brief.

We were on the hunt for a perfect tropical print in coral and green tones to work in the Major Mitchell’s Bar. We discovered Sabania from James Dunlop and couldn’t believe how closely it matched the colour palette and narrative of Little Big House. The eye-catching design is inspired by the native flora of the Caribbean. We created a custom shade trimmed with jute fringing for a vintage lamp base.
